Realm Press cancels its Battlestar Galactica comic books
"Citing poor sales and lack of a sufficiently broad consumer base to support an ongoing monthly title, JMJ Media today (18.Sept.00) announced that it would cease publication of Battlestar Galactica comic books." The cancellation notice includes the much-anticipated Battlestar Galactica Technical Journal comic book series.

JMJ Media will instead concentrate it's energies on the production and promotion of quality creator owned titles such as Matt (Star Wars) Busch's Daria Jontak and Greg (The Flash) LaRocque's Dreamer."

John Dorsey begins his exploration of Maximum Press's line of Battlestar Galactica comic books.
"The Maximum Press Comics Battlestar Galactica comic book series began in 1995. It had a distinct advantage in that it was the first new Galactica comic in 14 years (the horrible Marvel series ended in 1981) and thus at the outset seemed like a breath of fresh air. Perhaps to try to prevent burnout, Maximum Press (MP) published a number of three to four-issue limited series rather than a single ongoing comic.
The artwork is consistently good, yet flawed because the writers decided to change all the ship designs, giving us the explanation that the Colonials and Cylons have upgraded their technology over the 20 odd years since the final episode of the series. While it might be plausible for the Vipers to have been upgraded, it is very difficult to believe that the Galactica could have been completely revamped given the scarce limit of resources within a rag-tag fleet. Even the Pegasus (which eventually shows up) looks different and has a super cannon."

Battlestar Galactica comic books.
"The Marvel Comics Battlestar Galactica comic book series lasted 23 issues from 1979 to 1981 and is widely regarded as a major disappointment (although it came nowhere close to reaching the horrible depths of Galactica 1980). The first three issues cover the pilot episode "Saga Of A Star World" and issues 4 and 5 cover the second episode "Lost Planet Of The Gods." Starting with #6, the series ignores the rest of the events of the television series and begins completely original stories. (Marvel's contract with Universal specifically did not allow them to use anything from the television series that preceded "Lost Planet Of The Gods.") This is too bad. As a result, the Marvel series lost a chance to further explore many intriguing characters such as Cain, Sheba, Count Iblis, the Enforcers, the Nomen, and Spectre. "
