Quick Review

The first book covers Marvel comics #1-5 and #15,16 of the original Battlestar Galactica comics, while the second book covers issues #6 -13. The comic book art is the same great stuff we got back when the original comic was published by Marvel back in the day. However, most of the artwork has been cleaned up to look like brand new. (I say "MOST" for a reason ,more on that later) The cleaned up artwork really brings these comics to life! Having purchased a few of the original comics way back when, I can say the cleaned up artwork looks better than the original printing. If you are a Galactica fan, then you must own these. Its great to have #1 - #16 right at your finger tips.

While the second book deals just with the comics, the first book gives the reader some bonus materials. It talks briefly about the old comics, books, merchandise. They even go so far as to include blue prints of the 4 major ships. However they make the same mistake most publishers do in that they blue prints are not correct. My time spent working with Richard Hatch on his second coming trailer may have made me more aware of this, but it always bugs me to see a blue print of the Galactica based on the Monogram model - which made no real attempt to get the details right. The viper is a bit off and the raider is slightly off - but hey its bonus material! Its the comics that matter!

Like I mentioned before, the artwork has been cleaned up and looks super. However, they did miss fixing some scratches here and there. Overall the books are millon times better looking than the originals where the artwork was fixed. Sadly some of the comics seem to have been over looked when it came time to improve / fix the artwork. In the first book, the last 3 issues did not get their artwork cleaned up. The result is it looks like someone just scanned in the original comics and didn't bother to correct the resulting problems. Which would be a lot of noise in the colors. That being said, the book version still looks better than an original comic from 197x. So its not "really" bad, its just a shame to have the rest of the book look so good, then drop the ball on the last few stories.

I still highly recommend these books. However, I do believe in pointing out flaws so people aren't disappointed. That being said, this is a must have for the "CLASSIC" Battlestar fans out there.

Titan Books has done another great job here, and I would advise everyone to check these books out.
