Houston Texas was the focal point of an intergalactic gathering the likes of which had not been seen in many yearen! And what a great show it was as stars from both the original Battlestar Galactica and the reimagined series on the Sy Fy Channel, along with those from Caprica gathered to celebrate the greatness, love and affection held by so many for the Battlestar Galactica franchise.

The convention was held in conjunction with Comicpalooz at the George R. Brown convention center  and the two shows together packed quite a punch. Once on the Convention floor, Galacticon had the original cast on one side of the floor and the re-imagined series on the other side, separated by the Cylon- Colonial Alliance and an amazing  1/3 scale replica Cylon Raider built by Eugene Haggerty.

The show’s promoters did a great job of getting the stars aligned, three of whom really did an amazing job in their dealings with me; Shawn, Marcel & Cheryl, and the show’s announcements were voiced by the spectacular of Steven ‘The Voice’ Elliot. A good deal of the rest of the show’s success was is in large part due to the wonderful way in which the celebrities dealt with the fans as they showed them nothing but love, along with great events and panels!

From Esai Morales (Caprica’s Adama), Richard Hatch (Cpt. Apollo & Tom Zarich) and Kathy Coleman (Holly Marshall from Land of the Lost) singing Beatles songs all night long with gathered fans in the convention hotel’s lounge on Friday night, to the Hispanics in Science Fiction panel with Edward James Olmos, Cylons walking around everywhere, costume contests, many of the shows creative designers such as Lee Stringer, along with the actors who thanked the fans for the love and support given to them; the show was a Great Frakking success!

One of the show’s highlights were the closing ceremonies in which Shawn O’Donnel thanked everyone, along with comments by Richard Hatch and Kathy Coleman in which the entire Galacticon floor repeated the call and mantra of the convention, “So Say Y’all“! In the end, the true value of the show’s worth had to be valued by the excitement and enthusiasm of the fans themselves. As was said quite well by Jack Stauffer (Bojay), “Without the fans, there would be nothing!”

This was for me personally in some ways the absolute best show I have ever had, because it seemed my years of doing shows simply for the love of it came full circle. My award ceremony with Edward James Olmos and Esai Morales was if nothing else, worthy of every effort and ounce of hard work and sweat I put into my articles, reporting, con reports and satires. We do the things we love to do because we love doing them, plain and simple and that is what Galacticon was on so many levels and for so many people involved in this convention. Galacticon was a success because of all the love, dedication, devotion and affection which Battlestar Galactica and all of its creative components have given to so many people around the world. We fans shall continue to thank the Lords of Kobol every time we see our favorite episode on cable and as such, long may Battlestar Galactica live! Thank you to the show’s promoters and staff for a job so very well done!

    SO SAY WE ALL!
