Galactica: The Leading Edge By Steven Michael Witt |
As was noted in the original Scifi Horizons review, the strength of this series resides mainly in the three dimensional nature of its characters. Battlestar GalacticaÕs portrayal of its characters goes against the established vein of virtually every science fiction show which has preceded it. These characters are not intellectual giants, invested with limitless reams of scientific knowledge, nor are they epic heroes, that are capable of defeating near impossible odds. They are real people. They are neither all good, nor all bad, but instead are very, very human.

A Matter of Perspective By Steven Michael Witt |
The Magic of Television. A phrase with which even the most jaded and disconnected members of Generation X-box will have some passing familiarity, and one that has been around now for over half a century. Prior to the advent of television, the same moniker was applied to motion pictures. But exactly what does it mean?

"Been a while since I last spoke to you directly, but this has been an extremely busy and challenging year for me and I haven’t had much time until recently to reflect upon where I’ve come to in my life, and give thought to my experiences on the new Battlestar series. "

Steven Michael Witt talks "Galactica", Are we there yet? |
From the birth of broadcast TV, until just before the turn of the twenty-first century, most weekly television series adhered to a predictable format. Each episode in a series was conceived as a stand alone adventure. Storylines would be introduced, developed, and then resolved within the given time slot of a program. Events which occurred in one episode would have little or no appreciable effect on future episodes in the series.
The Battlestar Galactica was radically changed to portray a ribbed spacecraft that roughly conformed to the 1978 series design while radically altering its core elements, adding what fans largely described as a more Star Trek-like look. In the early stages of the production, the design team intended the Galactica to be a faithful representation of the original series. This changed about a third of the way into the design process when the production team wanted the old design put aside and sought a "new look".

"As many of you know the new BG series has been airing in England and now the United States to some of the highest ratings ever on the Sci-fi channel. As a result NBC and the Sci-fi channel has picked up the series for another season. Filming will most likely commence in May of this year....."
